THE TEAM

Whenever the Calgary Flames battle it out on the rink, you can always count on a profusion of high stakes and elevated pressure. The Flames boast an illustrious history of dominance, particularly when examining the 1980s. During that decade, the Flames reaped countless accolades and honours, and even took home the Stanley Cup during the 1988-1989 season. In the past, legendary players such as Allan MacInnis, Jarome Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff have all graced the team with their sheer brilliance and strong leadership.

Aside from possessing a storied past, the Flames are also backed up by a loyal following. The Flames have one of the strongest fan bases in the NHL. The team’s unabashedly dedicated fans have been responsible for notable events like the Red Mile, a renowned instance when tens of thousands of people flocked several streets in Calgary during the team’s 2004 playoff run. Wherever the Flames go, you can be sure that their frenzied fan won’t be far away.

At the beginning of the 2016-2017, it seemed like everything was in place for the Flames to achieve an appearance in the playoffs. Indeed, the season seemed very promising as the team boasted coveted players like Dougie Hamilton (who had recently been signed for a six-year contract valued at $34.5 million), Michael Frolík, Sam Bennett, and Sean Monahan. And yet, the season quickly became a disaster as the team failed to capitalize on its tremendous potential. As if things couldn’t get any worse, controversy struck after defenseman Dennis Wideman delivered a violent check to linesman Don Henderson in January. In the end, the team could not replicate the phenomenal performance of the 2014-2015 season. The Flames finished fifth in the Pacific Division with a record of 35-40-7.

Due to the team’s underwhelming performance of the 2016-2017 season, it was announced that Glen Gulutzan would replace Bob Hartley as head coach. With big changes and new leadership expected to affect the team during the upcoming season, there has never been a better time to purchase Calgary Flames tickets! THE ARENA

SCOTIABANK SADDLEDOME
555 Saddledome Rise SE
Calgary, AB T2G 2W1, Canada

In the Calgary skyline at night, the Scotiabank Saddledome shines so imperiously that it’s hard to believe that it’s one of the oldest arenas in the NHL. Having opened in 1983, the arena has witnessed its fair share of history. Located at 555 Saddledome Rise, the Saddledome has accommodated notable events like the 1985 NHL All-Star Game, the 2006 World Figure Skating championships, and various Olympic events. The arena is also tenaciously tied to Canadian identity, as it has hosted activities for “the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”, the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. Aside from being the home stadium of the Flames, the Saddledome is also the home of the Calgary Roughnecks of the National Lacrosse League and the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.
