THE TEAM

Things have not always been easy for the only Canadian team in the National Basketball Association.

The Toronto Raptors have endured harrowing early seasons, agonizing losing streaks, ridicule, and intrusive media scrutiny. And yet, despite all of these hardships, the Raptors have still been able to amass a tremendous amount of popularity. Indeed, the Raptors’ fan base is intimidating in its immense size, and is recognized for being one of the most dedicated and loyal followings in the NBA. The value of the Raptors franchise continues to increase each year, thanks in large part to the unwavering devotion of the team’s fans.

But the team’s reputation extends far beyond its popularity. Talented players such as Chris Bosh, DeMar DeRozan, and Vince Carters have all made their mark on Raptors history, and have showed the world how the team is bent on achieving victory, no matter the cost. While the efforts of the Raptors have failed to reap the championship title, the future looks brighter than ever.

In recent years, the Raptors have resurged in full force. In 2014, the Raptors clinched the playoffs for the first time in six years, after completing the regular season with 48 wins, going 42-22 following the Rudy Gay trade. The Raptors went head-to-head with the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the playoffs. The team would have made it to the next round had it not been for a particularly thrilling and intense Game 7 against the Nets. Still, there was so denying that the Raptors were back with renewed vigor. Last season, the team won a franchise record of 49 wins, and once again dominated the Atlantic division. While the Raptors made the playoffs, poor defense and wavering leadership allowed the team to be swept in the first round by the Washington Wizards. Despite this debacle, the 2014-2015 season ended on a celebratory note, as point guard Louis Williams became the first Raptor to win the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award.

This season will be the harbinger of a new era, as changes occur on and off the field. While the team may have lost Williams to the Los Angeles Lakers, they have gained a plethora of potential. For their first round pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Raptors selected point guard Delon Wright. In the second round, the Raptors added guard Normal Powell to their impressive roster. Later, the team acquired DeMarre Carroll, Luis Scola, Bismack Biyombo, and Cory Joseph. Moreover, head coach Dwane Casey will now be joined by assistant coaches Rex Kalamian, Andy Greer, and Jerry Stackhouse.
Get ready to watch as the team enters a new era of dominance! The Raptors are better than ever, and the best is yet to come.

The Rivals

Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks

Toronto Raptors vs. Brooklyn Nets

When it comes to rivalries, no other team can frustrate and infuriate the Raptors like the Brooklyn Nets. As if the sheer proximity between the two teams wasn’t enough, the Raptors and the Nets have the misfortune of facing each other on countless occasions during the regular season. In addition, both teams have a tendency to face each other when the stakes are highest, such as during the 2007 and 2014 playoffs. The rivalry gains momentum with every new encounter between the Raptors and the Nets, making it one of the most riveting match-ups in the NBA.

Toronto Raptors vs. New York Knicks

While the Raptors-Knicks rivalry truly began in the playoffs, it has morphed into a defining attribute of both teams. When these two titans come together, you can expect massive attendance, deafening cheers, exceptional performances, and spectacular basketball. As both teams enter a period of imminent prosperity, one thing is certain; things are about to get very, very interesting.

The Statistics

While the Raptors have yet to claim an NBA championship and a conference title, the team still boasts a slew of accolades. The team has made the playoffs on seven occasions, and has earned three division titles. Since their inception in 1995, four Raptors have been deemed worthy of an All-Star Game; DeMar DeRozan, Chris Bosh, Antonio David, and Vince Carter. As a new era of glory for the Raptors commences, dedicated fans are holding their breath in hopes that the Raptors add a championship title to their list of accomplishments.

Getting In

When planning your trip to the ACC, it’s important to know when the gates of the arena are open to the general public. The gates open 60 minutes before game-time. However, during weeknights, Gate 2 opens at 5:00 p.m., while all other gates still only open 60 minutes prior to the beginning of the game.

Where To Eat

Looking for a bite before the big game? There are plenty of reputable restaurants located a stone’s throw away from the Air Canada Centre. Whether you’re looking for a pub-like atmosphere like Miller Tavern (31 Bay Street) or a sophisticated vibe at Harbour Sixty Steak House (60 Harbour Street), your taste buds will surely be tickled by the best that downtown Toronto has to offer. We also recommend places like Hero Certified Burgers (50 Bay Street), the Fox (35 Bay Street), and E11even (15 York Street). Finally, Real Sports Bar & Grill is a must, as it ranked as one of the best sports bars in the country. Looking for something even closer? Well, how about a restaurant that’s a short walk away from your seat? There are three delightful restaurants located within the confines of the ACC; the fine dining Platinum Club, the upscale Air Canada Club, and the Hot Stove steakhouse.

Parking Around The Air Canada Centre

Parking always presents a few difficulties when headed to the ACC, and it’s no surprise that the thousands of available parking spaces near the ACC fill up relatively quickly. Luckily, there are parking passes that are available for purchase. These passes significantly reduce the time and energy required to find a suitable parking space. Also, affordable city lots are scattered across downtown Toronto for your parking convenience. Finally, the ACC is connected to the Union Railway Station, as well as to a series of pedestrian tunnels which are themselves connected to public transit stations. Public transit if a great way to avoid the parking hassle together, and we strongly recommend that you consider Toronto’s GO Transit and TTC.
