Things have not always been easy for the only Canadian team in the National Basketball Association.

The Toronto Raptors have endured harrowing early seasons, agonizing losing streaks, ridicule, and intrusive media scrutiny. And yet, despite all of these hardships, the Raptors have still been able to amass a tremendous amount of popularity. Indeed, the Raptors’ fan base is intimidating in its immense size, and is recognized for being one of the most dedicated and loyal followings in the NBA. The value of the Raptors franchise continues to increase each year, thanks in large part to the unwavering devotion of the team’s fans.

But the team’s reputation extends far beyond its popularity. Talented players such as Chris Bosh, DeMar DeRozan, and Vince Carters have all made their mark on Raptors history, and have showed the world how the team is bent on achieving victory, no matter the cost. While the efforts of the Raptors have failed to reap the championship title, the future looks brighter than ever.

In recent years, the Raptors have resurged in full force. In 2014, the Raptors clinched the playoffs for the first time in six years, after completing the regular season with 48 wins, going 42-22 following the Rudy Gay trade. The Raptors went head-to-head with the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the playoffs. The team would have made it to the next round had it not been for a particularly thrilling and intense Game 7 against the Nets. Still, there was so denying that the Raptors were back with renewed vigor. Last season, the team won a franchise record of 49 wins, and once again dominated the Atlantic division. While the Raptors made the playoffs, poor defense and wavering leadership allowed the team to be swept in the first round by the Washington Wizards. Despite this debacle, the 2014-2015 season ended on a celebratory note, as point guard Louis Williams became the first Raptor to win the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award.

This season will be the harbinger of a new era, as changes occur on and off the field. While the team may have lost Williams to the Los Angeles Lakers, they have gained a plethora of potential. For their first round pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Raptors selected point guard Delon Wright. In the second round, the Raptors added guard Normal Powell to their impressive roster. Later, the team acquired DeMarre Carroll, Luis Scola, Bismack Biyombo, and Cory Joseph. Moreover, head coach Dwane Casey will now be joined by assistant coaches Rex Kalamian, Andy Greer, and Jerry Stackhouse.
Get ready to watch as the team enters a new era of dominance! The Raptors are better than ever, and the best is yet to come.
