The Canadian Grand Prix become part of the Formula One world Championship series in 1967 and has been an F1 fan favorite ever since. In fact, in 2005 the Canadian Grand prix was the most watched Formula Grand Prix in the world. The 2005 Montreal Grand Prix was also the 3rd most watched sporting event worldwide.

The Canadian Grand Prix moved to its present home at Circuit Ile Notre Dame in 1978. Fan favorite and Quebec native Gilles Villeneuve won the Canadian Grand Prix race that year. Gilles Villeneuve died in 1982 during qualifying at the Belgian Grand Prix. That year, Circuit Ile Notre Dame was renamed to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in his honor.

F1 driver, Jacques Villeneuve, the son of legendary F1 champion Gilles Villeneuve raced several times at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve but was nothing more than a disappointment. He has since retired from F1 racing. In fact, Gilles Villeneuve is the only Canadian F1 driver to ever win the Canadian F1 Grand Prix.

The Canadian Grand Prix remains a fan and F1 driver favorite as everyone knows Montreal is one of the best party cities in the world. Many were disappointed when Montreal was taken off the F1 schedule in 2009. After a huge outcry from fans and sponsors alike, the Montreal Grand Prix was back on the map where it once again became the best and most exciting stop of the Formula One schedule.
