More on Tony Bennett Concert Tickets
Anthony Benedetto was born in Queens to a grocer father and seamstress mother. He was performing by the age of 10, including gigs as a singing waiter at Italian restaurants. World War II took the teenager to Europe where he saw fierce action and the sad spectacle of a Nazi concentration camp which he was involved in liberating.
After the war, his professional career began in earnest, and the hits started coming in 1953. It was 1962 that catapulted him to the annals of entertainment history when he recorded "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" and appeared on Johnny Carsons first night as host of The Tonight Show. But it wasnt all smooth sailing: rock n roll took over mainstream musical tastes and Tonys fortunes sunk, to the point where he almost died of a cocaine overdose.
His son Danny (a so-so musician with a group called Quacky Duck and His Barnyard Friends) took over as dads manager and got him back on track. The comeback hasnt ended yet ... and he says he will not retire.
Just a month from his 85th birthday, Tony Bennett performs July 1st at the Montreal Jazz Festival and the next day, July 2nd in Toronto with Diana Krall AND at Rexall Place in Edmonton ... on the same day.
