Despite being active for over four decades, Rush has retained the same impeccable musicianship, innovative style, insightful lyrics, and earnest determination that made the band a household name all of those years ago. This year, catch Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart as they embark on the R40 Tour in celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the release of the band’s self-titled debut album, and the fortieth anniversary of Peart’s induction in the band. You can witness the band perform at famed venues such as Montreal’s Bell Centre and Toronto’s Air Canada Centre.

Whether you’re a fan of their complex compositions, eclectic sound or masterful proficiency, there’s no denying that Rush offers something for everyone. After all, Rush’s signature sound has always been ever-changing. While the band began its career in the same hard rock vein as iconic groups such as Black Sabbath, The Who and Led Zeppelin, Rush’s style eventually evolved with the incorporation of British progressive rock. In the 1980s, Rush delved into pop rock, reggae, and new wave genres, thus allowing the group to extensively utilize synthesizers and electronic percussions. At the dawn of the 1990s, the members of Rush entered the alternative rock movement, and began their return to a guitar-oriented sound. In their quest to remain relevant, Rush has been forced to adapt to the ebb and flow of America’s ever-shifting music scene.

This musical diversity has paid off – and not in a miniscule way. The group has been awarded 24 gold and 14 platinum (including 3 multi-platinum) albums, thereby making Rush the third rock band with the most consecutive gold or platinum albums. Rush has received seven Grammy award nominations, and has taken home nine prestigious Juno Awards. In 1994, the band was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, in 2013, Rush was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The three band members were each made Officers of the Order of Canada in 1996. Finally, in 2012, Rush received the esteemed Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement. Rush’s awards and accolades defy expectation, and it is unsurprising as to why the rock band is considered Canada’s most precious national treasure.

This year, you can experience Lee’s famous high-register vocal style, Lifeson’s signature riffing and electronic effects, and Peart’s incorporation of innovative instruments as Rush embarks on yet another extensive tour in commemoration of the fortieth anniversary of the band’s eponymous debut. The acclaimed band will perform at Montreal’s Bell Centre, Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome, and Vancouver’s Rogers Arena. Additionally, Rush will return to their hometown of Toronto with an electric two-night event at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre.
